Weekly Update 10/13/14-10/18/14

Volleyball and Cross Country conclude their seasons next week.  It's great to see all of the progress these athletes have made this year.  I've heard from many cross country runners that they have achieved personal best times at the last couple of meets.  This is a testament to their determination in pursuit of excellence.  As shown in the weekly schedule below that the bus and meet time for the Rapid City Invitational have changed.  The host school is attempting to alleviate parking lot issues between cross country and school dismissal traffic by moving up the meet start time.

The 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams also conclude their year with the Spearfish Middle School Invitational Tournament on Saturday the 18th.  It will be a full and exciting day of volleyball.  Please come out and support the Spartans as they finish their seasons.  Also, remember that our home tournaments are the only SMS events we charge admission to.  The admission cost is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.  Pre-K and under are free.

With all of this excitement, of course their are opportunities to get involved.  Please see the complete list of volunteer opportunities below and contact Kevin via email or at 717-1215 if you can lend a hand.  The money raised in the concession stand supports our yearly activities banquet and other activity needs throughout the year.  Your help is crucial and much appreciated.

Next week also brings the first family conferences of the school year.  Seventh grade, eighth grade, and encore teachers will be in the gym from 3:45 to 7:00 on Wednesday evening to meet with families and students.  School-home communication is vitally important to student success and we hope you will make the time to come in and participate.  If you cannot make it on Wednesday, please contact your child's teaching team to schedule a conference.  Sixth grade conferences are all by appointment and will be held throughout next week.  If you have not yet scheduled a conference with your 6th grade student's core teachers, please contact them to do so.  Teachers' email address can be found on the SMS website.
