Prior to participating in practice or competition, students must have a sports physical on file with the SMS office. This has to be done every year. If your student has already completed their physical, your health provider will forward to the paperwork to us. If you have your completed physical paperwork, please bring it to the meeting on the 18th or drop it off at the middle school office. If your student has not completed their sports physical and plans to participate in activities this year, please have them do so as soon as possible.
Students participating in contact and collision sports must also complete the Impact baseline test for concussions every other year. Football and volleyball players must have a baseline test on file. Cross Country runners do not need to complete the Impact test. Students entering the 8th grade who completed the test last school year and did not suffer a concussion do not need to take the Impact test this year. Any 7th grade students, 8th grade students that did not complete the Impact test last school year, or students who suffered a diagnosed or suspected concussion last year that plan to participate in volleyball or football, must complete the Impact test prior to beginning practice.
Volleyball players will be testing on Thursday, August 21st at 3:30 pm in the middle school library. Football players will be testing on Tuesday, August 26th after school in the middle school library. Practices for all activities will begin after school on Monday, August 25th.
We are looking forward to another productive and enjoyable year of activities at Spearfish Middle School. Please contact me at 717-1215 if you have any questions prior to the 18th.
